  • 1986 Toyota Corolla GT-S – Turbo F20C Swap

    “Mata ne Hachi-Roku”

When Anthony’s 1986 Toyota Corolla GT-S rolled into the shop as a rolling shell, we all shared one thing: unmitigated enthusiasm that only a blank-canvas project like this can bring. The goal was to build something with street-focused manners paired with track-attack capability, all while maintaining reliability, and drivability. The best part? A green light to throw convention to the wind, in the interest of delivering the best result.

During the conceptualization process, everything was on the table: Formula Atlantic 4A-GE N2 (11,000RPM and all), TRD Group-A AE101, Ecotec LNF, Nissan SR20DET, Mazda 20B, 300whp+ NA K-Series hybrid, NA RB26DE (from Autech HNR32), etc. What direction did Anthony choose? A 2.0L, I4, 9,000RPM platform with unrivaled reliability, augmented with a turbocharged variable 400-600whp. He chose a modified F20C from AP1 Honda S2000.

What you see here is the result, carried out by John, Vlad, and the entire National Speed team. Featuring products from AEM Performance ElectronicsHoneywell GarrettMagnus MotorsportsK-TunedJSP FabInjector DynamicsWalbro Fuel PumpsTiAL SportTechno Toy TuningWilwood, along with New Old Stock OEM Toyota components from various models to bring it all together.

This amazing AE86 is now back home with Anthony in Georgia, being thoroughly and properly enjoyed (and thrashed). While that’s the most fulfilling part of all to us, it still never gets any easier to bid farewell to these incredible projects. We hope you are enjoying it, Anthony!

So how do we ensure our full builds will withstand their intended usage? We simulate it. In this case, Tony’s 460whp F20C Honda S2000 swapped 1986 Toyota Corolla, which he intends to thrash around the road course.

Sit back, crank the volume, and enjoy the sights and sounds of Vlad putting the F20C engine through its paces, controlling everything via AEM Performance Electronics Infinity-6.

  • 1994 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo

    1994 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo

Another immaculate JZA80/MKIV Toyota Supra came through the shop for some work! This one in particular, is Jason’s 32,000 mile Renaissance Red 1994 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo. While this car is absolutely pristine top-to-bottom, we discovered that cylinder No. 4 was significantly down on compression due to a leaking exhaust valve, along with a pair of 25-year old original turbochargers which had seen better days. So, Jason took the opportunity to not only correct the issue, but have some fun while we were in there!

Up first, Louis removed the cylinder head for a full cylinder head service & rebuild by Ballos Precision Machine, then reinstalled with a full OEM Toyota top-end reseal along with ARP cylinder head studs, OEM Toyota timing set, OEM Toyota coil pack connectors, installed rebuilt turbochargers & performed the “True TT” from sequential conversion with OEM Toyota components, and then with the maintenance work out of the way, got to installing an Apexi co.,ltd intake system, HKS Fuel Cut Defender, Tanabe USA down-pipe, Extreme Turbo Systems full titanium exhaust system, and an Extreme Turbo Systems front-mount intercooler system with TiAL Sport Q 50mm blow-off valve.

Once Louis wrapped all the work in the shop, Charlie strapped her down for some post-work dyno pulls. Running on the factory untuned ECU, this refreshed & better-breathing 2JZ-GTE put down 358.08whp & 332.95lbft through the automatic transmission! Killer results for this pristine MKIV!

    1995 Toyota Supra – 1,200HP

Hector brought us his 1995 Toyota Supra to have the turbocharger system updated, and the new setup dialed in! Up first, Archer to set this built 2JZ-GTE up with a Virtual Works Racing T4 turbocharger manifold, Precision Turbo & Engine 7675 turbocharger, TiAL Sport MV-R wastegates, custom fabricated dump-tubes, and performed all the other custom fabrication work needed to adapt the new configuration to the existing intercooler & exhaust system.

After the mechanical work wrapped in the shop, Charlie strapped this JZA80 down for Vlad to perform a custom calibration via AEM V2 EMS. While the final numbers are well into the four-digits, exact numbers will remain undisclosed… but who doesn’t love the sights & sounds of a 1,xxxwhp Supra twisting the rollers? Check the video below.

    1994 Toyota Supra – 1,300HP

Chris brought his 1994 Toyota Supra in all the way in from Kentucky for the last step of his TX2K19 preparation: a custom dyno calibration by Vlad via AEM Performance Electronics Infinity 712! Quick rundown of the setup: forged internals (still 3.0L of displacement), Kelford Cams D camshafts, ported cylinder head, Sleeper Designsintake manifold, OEM GM LS3 90mm throttle body, mechanical fuel system, 12 Injector Dynamics ID1700 fuel injectors, Precision Turbo & Engine 7675 Gen-II turbocharger.

With E98 in the tank, Vlad was able to extract a strong 1,178.13whp & 986.25lbft at 39psi! Needless to say, Chris is going to have a blast with the new performance.

  • 1995 Toyota Supra – MoTeC

    1995 Toyota Supra – MoTeC

Sean’s Super Red 1995 Toyota Supra Turbo is wrapped up, dialed in, and ready to hit the road! Back in the early-2000s, this car was originally built by a legendary Supra shop of the time — this round, we gave some of the early-2000’s period correct aspects of the build a facelift.

Up first, we replaced the touchy quad-disc clutch for a far more streetable OS Giken TC Series twin-disc, installed updated timing components from Powerhouse Racing, refreshed the hydraulic system with OEM Toyota components, installed a MoTeC TCMux to allow for effective traction control calibration (because single-turbo Supra), and addressed an uncontrollable boost creep issue with a new turbocharger manifold from BP Autosports, LLC. (Ceracoted by our friends at Detective Coating), dual MV-S wastegates from TiAL Sport, and custom fabrication necessary for a clean installation.

With all the mechanical work wrapped in the shop, she hit the rollers to get dialed in by Vlad via MoTeC M600! On 93 octane, Vlad capped the boost pressure off at ~18psi, generating 626.25whp & 500.20lbft! For a daily drivable Supra, these numbers are absolutely perfect for pump gas! Stay tuned for race gas numbers to come!
