  • More Than Meets the Eye

In case you’ve been living under a rock, or missed the 30 second teaser that aired during the Superbowl, Transformers 2 is going to own you. Judging by the latest trailer, the sequel doesn’t look to disappoint — it’s bigger, louder, and will eat your babies if you don’t watch it.

Pay careful attention during the trailer for glimpses of the Corvette Stingray Concept, the return of the new Chevy Camaro, and the Chevy Volt — rumor has it that Chevy paid a pretty penny to have the Volt make an appearance.

While the first Transformers was definitely a blast, this one looks to have upped the ante in every way possible, and even if the incredibly stupid Volt is in the flick, maybe there’s more to it than meets the eye…

    Sorry, couldn’t resist that one.

  • HD Automotive Videos: ClashProductions and Format67

Today I felt like highlighting automotive videos shot with REAL Production quality. While the burnout you did in your dad’s Camaro on Streetfire was cool, the fact that it was shot on a cellphone and was so fuzzy you could barely make out your mullet and acid washed attire was not cool.

I suppose the point is, regardless of whatever you’re shooting, if you’re shooting with crappy equipment, it’s going to be crappy. People enjoy things in High Definition, and that’s a fact. It can indeed make a piece of poop look like the most wondrous thing ever beheld. Using this logic, you have to figure if it can make something bad look good, what will it do to something that looks good already?

First up is Format67, based out of Germany. With a team 5 strong, Daniel Michaelis and crew put out their first automotive short in July of 2007. They’ve covered MANY vehicles including but not limited to: A R34 Skyline, AE86, Ford GT, BMW 135i, and the Subaru STi. Music choice and post production is top notch with this group, conveying and capturing emotion in a very powerful way. You can tell there is a lot of storyboarding that goes into each video as there is always a story to keep your attention.

Check out these two, as they are some of my favorites. -Watch in Fullscreen-

Two Imprezas on an Asphalt Playground.

Ferrari F430 playing on the Streets.

Next up is Clash Productions, Based out of the UK. While strictly autosport (Drag/Drift/TimeAttack) and more action based, Clash Productions does a ridiculously good job portraying emotion and capturing the spirit of any event. I swear these guys can make ANYTHING look amazing. Clash Productions has been together since 2005 and has put out some amazing things since then. Although I’m only going to post two examples, I highly suggest you check out their Streetfire Account and watch some other stuff too. The level of post processing skill is ridiculous here. Selective focus also seems to be a favorite technique. I haven’t seen anyone be able to capture the spirit of the event like Clash Productions.

  • National Speed Presents: 5 Epic Automotive Fails

I hate to admit it, but I’m a bit of a rubbernecker. When I see a crash on the side of the road, I slow my car down to Flintstones speed just so I can get a better look at the remains (of the car — not the body, sickos). And while there’s nothing funny about automotive accidents, you’ve got to admit that these are some truly epic fails.

    1) Flipping Sweet! I still don’t see how this guy survives. He flips at least 8 times and perfectly nails the dismount. Synchronized car crashing should be an Olympic sport — if Curling counts then certainly we can get synchronized car crashing in there.

    2) Don’t Do It! This clip gets funnier every time I watch it just for the owner of the car shouting in the background, “NO! DON’T DO IT! NO!” I have a demented sense of humor, what can I say…

    3) Ghost Riding Dirty. Anybody that’s stupid enough to Ghost Ride deserves to have their car stolen. Disclaimer: I’m sure this is fake but because I hate Ghost Riding so much I have to include it on the list to encourage future carjackers.

    4) Wheels Optional. I might be wrong but generally you have a better chance of winning a drag race if your wheels stay on during the actual racing. I could be wrong, though.

    5) Wear Your Helmet! Another ridiculous crash. No one was harmed in the making of this video, which means you can enjoy it without feeling guilty.
